Metlakatla is in the process of ratifying a Land Code and, if passed, Metlakatla will join dozens of other First Nations from across the country in taking back control of our reserve lands.

But what about the other First Nations who have passed Land Codes? Has it made a difference? Is it better than the current system under the antiquated Indian Act? The answer is a resounding yes, according to a 2014 study by world-renowned audit firm KPMG* .

Here is a look back at some of the accomplishments of 2015, published in Wednesday's issue of the Northern View. Look for more regular updates in the coming weeks!

Just a friendly reminder to all Metlakatla band members:

The Metlakatla Fisheries Program would like to remind all band members, in order to recieve any food fish this year from the Food Fish Program, you should be registered under The Deparment of Indian Affairs.

The Northern View and Northern Connector are now available in Metlakatla. Pick up your free copy of the newspaper, including all of the flyers, at the Metlakatla Band Office every Wednesday and Friday morning.

The management of the Metlakatla Development Corporation would like to remind everyone that, as per Section 2.4 of the contract with the Prince Rupert School District, the 7:50 a.m. ferry departing from Metlakatla and the 3:30 p.m. ferry departing from Prince Rupert are open only to “School District pupils, trustees and other individuals or groups on school-related business as authorized by the Secretary-Treasurer of the board, or designate”.

Metlakatla's Education Program Manager, Sandra Carlick has been nominated as one of Simon Fraser University's most inspiring graduate students over the past 50 years! Congratulations on your huge accomplishment!
