Metlakatla/Prince Rupert – The Metlakatla First Nation submitted a claim with the Specific Claims Process and filed a Declaration with Specific Claims Tribunal asserting that Canada breached its fiduciary obligations to the Metlakatla Indian Band in relation to the 1906 surrender of land comprising parts of the south half of Tsimpsean Indian Reserve No. 2 on Kaien Island, Digby Island, and the Tsimpsean Peninsula.  To access the complete media release, kindly click on the link provided below: http://www.metlakatla.ca/sites/default/files/Media%20Release%20-%201906%20Settlement%20Final.pdf

Two Khtada Bursaries of $500 each are available for Metlakatla members pursuing post-secondary education, includes post secondary institution or trades training.  The bursary must be used within 12 months of being awarded.   Application deadline is Friday, 04 August 2023.  For more information on criteria that must be met in order to be eligible for the bursary click this link.
