The Metlakatla First Nation is currently seeking two Metlakatla members to serve on the Metlakatla Education Committee. Committee members must have a demonstrated knowledge of post-secondary education (previous student, education staff, previous experience in Education committee). The term of the appointment, made through Metlakatla Governing Council, will be five years. Committee members are expected to: -Maintain confidentiality; -Support and, whenever necessary, clarify or explain MEC’s positions on any funding issues approved by the committee; -Work harmoniously and respectfully with other committee members regardless of differences of opinion, encourage productive dialogue and share information in open discussions; -Make all final decisions through consensus of a quorum of no less than three (3) committee members (All committee members must agree on consensus) -Monitor the post-secondary financial records -Monitor OST financial records at the time of Policy Review Interested applicants are requested to apply with an expression of interest outlining their relevant experience to the Executive Director at
Attention Metlakatla Members: On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Metlakatla First Nation received the full $150 million settlement from the Government of Canada related to the 1906 Settlement. With the funds in place, staff and Council are ensuring all of the legal paperwork is in place to commence the member distribution. We need YOUR input on the Proposed Ksi Lisims LNG Project. MSS is asking Metlakatla members to share their views about the proposed project and any concerns or issues that may they have about it. MSS will use this information to focus the Rights Impact Assessment on what matters most to Metlakatla members. Backgrounder for the project can be found here.
