On April 29, 2024, the Metlakatla Governing Council passed resolutions declaring two in-territory seats to be vacant due to a breach of the Code of Conduct as per Section 14 of the Metlakatla Election Code.
As a result of the resolution, the Metlakatla Governing Council will be holding a special By-election for two (2) In-territory Councillors. Lawrence Lewis of OneFeather has been appointed as the Electoral Officer and OneFeather will be conducting the byelection.
The voting date has been set as Monday, November 4, 2024.
We are thrilled to announce an historic milestone for Metlakatla First Nation! On June 27, 2024, the Metlakatla Governing Council completed the purchase of an 8.32 acre oceanfront property, BLOCK A DL 2248 STEPHENS ISLAND, locally known as Squadaree.
Kindly note that during the summer months, there will be no scheduled school ferry service runs departing from or arriving at Metlakatla for Prince Rupert at 7:30 AM or 3:30 PM.
Thank you to all the Metlakatla members who recently applied for the 1906 Member Distribution. Dates have been confirmed for the 1906 Settlement cheque distribution.
The dates are as follows:
Prince Rupert: Highliner Inn from Monday, April 29, to Thursday, May 2
•Noon to 8 p.m daily.
Metlakatla: Administration Office on Friday, May 3
• 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Vancouver: Hilton Vancouver Downtown from Sunday, May 5, to Tuesday, May 7
• 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 5, Noon to 8 p.m. on May 6/7

If you've already submitted an application online, please do not send in a paper application.
At a Special Council Meeting held on March 15, 2024, the Metlakatla Governing Council approved a distribution of $100,000 per member alive and on the Band list as of September 5, 2023.
Look for the application link and more information on the distribution early next week, with paper copies being sent to all registered individuals as well.
Note that funds for minors under the age of 19 will be put into a Trust Fund and accessible once the individual reaches the age of 19.
